About Naming Things

Question: Does 'seeing the oneness of Life/Identity' mean that 'all matter', this material world, would then be perceived to be all the same? Does it mean that nothing would be or 'should be' distinguished from something else. Does naming the "Black Eyed Susan" and "Purple Anemone", and "Spiky Periwinkle" that are growing in the garden, hinder us from 'seeing directly' and thus take away from the 'wonder and beauty ' from what we see? Should we try to not name things?

Answer: Actually, with less clutter in our minds and less self-centeredness, our artistic sensitivity and our awareness of distinctions becomes more acute, richer, and deeper….. not less. And putting names to things only enhances the delight of this new found way of seeing. .

I am sure you've felt, now that you are 'less in the way of yourself' so to speak or 'more aware and open', that every little thing has now become alive with light and beauty and its very own distinct 'difference'. Without the 'old concepts' standing in the way, every little thing is seen seems more lush and rich and 'individual' than it ever was 'before' ( when the mind was cluttered with 'self concerns').

When you discovered that your Real Identity was 'This very Present all encompassing Awareness' you also began to notice that all the things around you became even more distinctive and more intense with beauty and color and depth and wonder. In a way, you notice that everything has become ever so much more real….more real... not less.... more mysterious, more magical; Music, sounds, voices, feelings, touch, intuition, color, hearing, sights, lights, and delights became ever more distinct, defined, individual, unique.

As we all know every blade of grass is different from the other, and not one snowflake that ever fell to earth and vanished in moment, not one had a duplicate… and among all the trillions upon trillions of grains of sand no two are alike…..Phenomenal….Now obviously God loves distinctions and individuality….I won't quibble with God.

Without the 'old limited view' that was dusty and cloudy with confusions and worry and guilt and regret, it is amazing how our ability to distinguish and name, actually increases, and increases enormously.

And, if that is not enough, you will become more discerning, not less.

Somehow, as many of you all notice, once the 'concepts and thoughts' are seen for what they are, then the direct interface with all of Life makes us aware of new sights that we had previously been unconscious of; new sounds we have never consciously heard before; feelings of childlike wonder and joy and delight, the lightness of an unburdened spirit, and a sense of relief and fearlessness we long since thought had vanished with the years.

But more, we find an ever growing ability to distinguish new things in areas not recognized as containing new things- the world comes alive again and so do we.

Our intuition increases also, and proves reliable.

The familiar is now seen as rare and extraordinary beauty….. naming them does not affect the marvelous artistic sensitivity that has been awakened.

The Jacaranda Tree in full bloom in an abundant array of lavender-blue is so much more different than that the Mighty Oak standing near by….in the past I would not have noticed, my mind filled with concerns and all the distractions and worry and always all of it going around about 'me, me, me' what about me'…… But now, in the peace and light of Living Grace, I could say that I wish I had even more words, more names to name it all. Everything is more alive with individuality, personality and uniqueness in my world. I need words and names that are not even yet available, I need a new language so that I could speak of things that have been, until now, unseen and unheard of …..I am sure you feel the same.

With the former restrictions vanishing from our eyes, the old patterns of mind set brake away and even, often, old habits step aside...Light and freedom make everything, both seen and unseen, absolutely more mystical, distinct, and individual.

And I bet you have also found that others who are still at the (necessary) stage of only intellectual understanding of non-dualism, think you 'sound like' you are making very 'conceptual-judgmental' statements and will 'accuse' you of hypocrisy. But, not to be concerned, for they have not discovered (yet) the Real and Living Heart of Awareness Itself….Which is what I call The Child, Light, Grace, Original Self…the balancing center....this essential Self...but they will find it! I know they will!….and then the world will come alive again for them too, and many things will be seen and understood clearly….and the world will become fresh and new once again.

Oddly true, as paradoxical as it may sound, but in fact, it is through contradistinctions, through the infinity and multiplicity of things, that Singleness, Oneness is tangibly known.

Bible Hab.2-2 "Write the vision make it plain" There is a wonder in every word that we write.

As you too have discovered for your selves, when we are no longer living a life in illusory fear of the world, we are no longer congested in our minds eyes….and now we can see clearly, and farther, much farther, and deeper....and we can call things by many names, or new names, as our perceptions shift and expand.

Here and Now the Heart blooms in Light.
